Dr. Ayesha graduated with Honors in veterinary science in 2000. She has demonstrated dedication and expertise as a general practitioner in small and large animal practices. In addition to her veterinary qualifications, Dr. Fernando holds a Master's degree in Food Science and Technology/Nutrition, further enhancing her proficiency in animal health and well-being.
Dr. Ayesha has been an esteemed member of the Australian Veterinary Association, and she is showcasing her commitment to professional development and adherence to best practices in the field. Additionally, she is affiliated with the Australian Small Animal Association and the Australian Small Animal Behavioural Group, enhancing her network and access to the latest advancements in veterinary medicine.
Demonstrating leadership and entrepreneurial acumen, Dr. Fernando spearheaded the establishment of two state-of-the-art veterinary clinics in Southeast Victoria in 2019 and 2021. Her recent integration into the Stud Road Vet team in 2022 underscores her ongoing commitment to providing exceptional veterinary care to the Dandenong community and beyond.
Specializing in complex medical cases and surgical interventions, Dr. Fernando is renowned for her adeptness in diagnosing and treating challenging conditions. Beyond her professional endeavours, she enjoys culinary pursuits and actively participates in cultural activities with her family and her beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Danny. Fluent in both English and Sinhala, Dr. Fernando bridges cultural and linguistic divides to provide compassionate care to all her patients and their families.
Dr Malika completed her Veterinary Degree in 2005 and has a special interest in advanced soft tissue surgeries, pocket pet medicine, and surgery. She was afforded an excellent opportunity to work as a Senior Veterinary Surgeon with the World Society for the Protection of Animals UK (WSPA), which undertook a pioneering five-and-a-half-year scientific, humane, and holistic dog population and rabies management project from 2007 to 2012. Working for a committed animal welfare organization such as WSPA, whose vision is "A World where animal rights matter and animal cruelty must end," made her passion for animal welfare even more robust and worthwhile.
In 2013, Malika joined the RSPCA VIC and continued her journey in the animal welfare sector for eight years. She was drawn to animals in need and overjoyed when she could rescue an injured bird or search for a lost pet and return it to its heartbroken family.
After all these years, she believes she is still learning and improving her ability to help animals. As the current Practice Owner and Director of Stud Road Vet Clinic, she is confident in her ability to assemble a team that shares her passion for our patients and clients. "The absolute best part of my profession is that it allows me to make a difference; whether it's preventative care to keep animals healthy or to help a new life enter the world, I make a difference every day. That's why I love what I do."
In addition to her Veterinary Degree, Malika has also completed a two-year Small Animal Surgery course at Sydney University, along with certificate courses in "Frontline Leadership Development," "Organizational Development," and "Project Management" at MDF.
"I am grateful to have achieved my lifelong dream and honored by the trust placed in me, not only by my patients but also by the people who love them. I treasure the long-term relationships I have developed with my clients. I will work hard to maintain our reputation as we work with this caring and kind Dandenong Community to ensure that the pets they love receive the best care possible and are always treated with gentleness, compassion, and respect."
Outside work, Dr. Malika is a busy mum to two mischievous sons, aged 11 and 10. Fortunately, she has all the support from her husband, Anand, the clinic's Business Manager!
Anand completed his Veterinary Degree in 2005 and was afforded an excellent opportunity to work as a Project Coordinator, HR representative, and Veterinary Surgeon with the World Society for the Protection of Animals UK (WSPA) from 2007 to 2012. While working for the WSPA, he enjoyed engaging with people in various urban and suburban communities. In addition to honing his veterinary skills, he also developed his people management and administrative skills, realizing that working closely with the public—from those in high office to grassroots levels—could facilitate beneficial changes in animal welfare.
Anand joined the RSPCA Vic in 2013 and served as the Animal Care Manager at Pearcedale Shelter until 2021. He believes that the best welfare outcomes are achieved by proactively working with clients and the community, making them feel valued, supported, and empowered.
In addition to his Veterinary Degree, Anand has completed a Graduate Certificate in Shelter Medicine at the University of Florida, along with courses in Leadership Development, Client Interaction and Conflict Management, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation of Project Management, and Organizational Development at MDF.
Anand is now the Business Manager/Director of Stud Road Vet Clinic. His primary focus is operating the clinic with close community involvement and providing job opportunities within the locality. As you know, the veterinary industry is physically, mentally, and emotionally challenging. However, being part of this Dandenong community will strengthen the clinic during tough times.
In his spare time, Anand loves spending quality time with his 11- and 10-year-old sons and his wife, Dr. Malika, who works at Stud Road Vet Clinic. Oh, and he loves music and dancing 😊
